There’ll be glory days
When I’m shining and you’re shining
We’re in our best versions
Looking at “her sincerests” and “his charmingests”
Thinking we’re seeing the very whole person out of those bests
“Yeah! That is the one!
Whose presence I’ve always asked for.
Thank God! For this love.”

There’ll be doomed days
When I’m like shit and you’re like crap
We’re in our worst versions
One – the bottom point of sine graphs
One – the lowest A of pianos
We’re in the thirst of our own needs
When the other is unable to offer anything
Other than that very presence we’re looking at,
Thinking we’re seeing the very whole person out of those worsts
“Eh, is that the one?”

We’re questioning ourselves so hard
Ask God, God says
“No, I have nothing to do with your love now
You gotta choose. Fight or flight, it’s your call.
But remember, there’ll be days like this.
Always.”

“When it’s not always raining there’ll be days like this
When there’s no one complaining there’ll be days like this
When everything falls into place like the flick of a switch
Well my mama told me there’ll be days like this

When you don’t need to worry there’ll be days like this
When no one’s in a hurry there’ll be days like this
When you don’t get betrayed by that old Judas kiss
Oh my mama told me there’ll be days like this

When you don’t need an answer there’ll be days like this
When you don’t meet a chancer there’ll be days like this
When all the parts of the puzzle start to look like they fit it
Then I must remember there’ll be days like this

There’ll be days like this

When everyone is up front and they’re not playing tricks
When you don’t have no freeloaders out to get their kicks
When it’s nobody’s business the way that you want to live
I just have to remember there’ll be days like this

When no one steps on my dreams there’ll be days like this
When people understand what I mean there’ll be days like this
When you ring out the changes of how everything is
Well my mama told me there’ll be days like this.”
